Sherlock Series Three
Ok, so if you are like me, you were armed and prepared with ice cream and Kleenex when you sat down to watch the third series premier of Sherlock. The ending of series two left many conspiracy theories, many fans angrily shaking their fists at Moffat, and pretty much all felt a similar emotion when John uttered "Don't be dead," while standing at Sherlock's grave. There is no doubt that the ending of series 2 was an emotional rollercoaster. I had mentally prepared myself for all of the "feels" that the series three premier would bring. Although, never disappointed, I certainly was surprised! There were tears, but they were the kind that you get when you start laughing and can not stop! The waiter scene has got to be one of the funniest scenes of Moffat history. Sherlock, being so brilliant and yet so brilliantly daft when it comes to people and their feelings, devised a plan of surprising John with the fact he was, in fact, not dead. He assumed it would be a very fun and humorous idea to surprise John by pretending to be a waiter at the restaurant that John had intended to propose to new girlfriend Mary. The faux mustache, the silly French accent, the irritation when John didn't even look up: absolutely hilarious. Even now, when picturing the scene again, I can't help but giggle. The plan didn't exactly go the way Sherlock expected it to. Imagine his surprise when John's reaction was to charge and tackle him to the ground in the middle of the restaurant in a fit rage. After a few scenes of Sherlock wittily trying to explain himself and John growing more and more angry, the two split, and nothing is resolved.
The premier was witty, fun and fast paced. Very unlike Moffat's Doctor Who: Christmas Special of a couple weeks ago, but I will save that for another time. There were some really tender moments between Sherlock and Molly, which left all of the worlds Sherlolly shippers feeling very hopeful. The episode explored more of the brotherly relationship and the serious competition between Sherlock and Mycroft, making Mycroft character just a little more complex. Let's not forget the scene where Mycroft swooped in and rescued a shirtless, chained in a Russion prison, Sherlock. Now, I'm not saying that having Sherlock Holmes shirtless and chained up in a prison was meant to be sexy, but I have a feeling more than one female fan enjoyed that scene immensely. Let me be the first to say, the episode didn't completely leave me feeling giddy for the entirety. The touching scene between John and Sherlock in the tube satisfied my craving for "feels."
In true Moffat form, the mystery behind Sherlock's faked death was not uncovered in this episode, leaving many to wonder if it even will, and leaving even more not to care. That's how good the episode was, in my opinion. For years people have been wondering how Sherlock's faked death would be explained, and when it wasn't, there really wasn't much rage in the Sherlock fandom. Thankfully, many members of the fandom are also in the Doctor Who fandom, so we have just learned never to question Moffat's giant plot holes and lack of explanation about seemingly important events. Just sit back and enjoy the sheer brilliance. I for one can't wait to see what the next two episodes bring, though I don't want to even THINK about how long we will be waiting for Series Four.
What about you, what were your favorite Sherlock moments? Anyone have any complaints about the episodes?
